2006 Minnesota Twins Roster

No one doubted that the Minnesota Twins were good, but the Chicago White Sox and Cleveland Indians were considered better and a third place finish was predicted. The Detroit Tigers came out of nowhere, holding onto first place until the last game of the season when the Twins emerged from behind to take the division. Considering the dismal ball played in the initial two months of the season and the total re-working of the leftside of the playing field, 2,285,018 fans turned out to see a new breed of superstar emerge. After an All-Star game that showcased Joe Mauer and Johan Santana (Liriano was a last minute addition), no one could have predicted the end-of-the-season honors that were about to come the Twins way. General Manager Terry Ryan was named Executive of the Year (for the second time), Johan Santana led the league in ERA, strikeouts and victories and was awarded a second Cy Young, Joe Mauer won the batting championship, Torii Hunter won a Gold Glove and in a surprise outcome, Justin Morneau was named the league's Most Valuable Player! The Twins had to settle for 'just' Divisional Champs, falling in 3 games to Oakland in the playoffs. On a personal note: I proposed on September 8th via the scoreboard at the Twins/Tigers game, won by fave Pat Neshek. Risa accepted and wedding bells are set for June, next season...maybe at a Twins game!
