2004 Minnesota Twins Roster
Back-to-Back-to-Back! Does it get any better sounding than that to a major league team? Three straight divisional crowns and 1,911,418 fans...the third straight season of high attendance at the Dome. It was the year Johan Santana opened everyone's eyes, leading the league in strikeouts (265) and posting a 2.61 ERA while capping his sparkling season with the Cy Young Award. It was also the season #1 draft pick Joe Mauer started as catcher, but quickly went down for the season with a knee injury. Justin Morneau emerged and pushed Doug Mientkiewicz to the trading block and Joe Nathan shined in his new role as closer and the Twins lone All-Star. Torii Hunter won another Gold Glove and Paul Molitor was elected to the Cooperstown Hall of Fame. But like the previous season, the powerhouse New York Yankees bowled over the Twins 3-1 in the 1st round of the playoffs.
