2002 Minnesota Twins Roster

It wasn't talk of moving the team this time that brought fear to Minnesota Twins baseball fans, but 'contraction.' Would major league baseball simply fold some of the teams into others, abandoning territories that were considered weaker markets for the sport? The Minnesota Twins suffered a near decade of low-salaried teams and promising but far from competitive play. Despite this, new manager Ron Gardenhire inherited a solid core of players that had paid their dues and now had to prove that baseball in Minnesota could be considered 'Big League Ball.' 1,924,473 fans shouted and the Twins won the division, beat Oakland in the playoffs, but fell to Anaheim in the league finale. The stars shone bright in the Upper Midwest and one of its biggest, Torii Hunter, robbed Barry Bonds of a home run in the All Star game and earned his second Gold Glove. Hunter was joined at the All-Star game by catcher A.J. Pierzynski and closer 'Every Day' Eddie Guardado.
