1989 Minnesota Twins Roster

It's not every season that a major star is cut loose, but the Minnesota Twins were dismal and the prospects of signing superstar Frank Viola were so slim that the Twins traded Viola and a prospect to the New York Mets for Rick Aguilera, Kevin Tapani, Jack Savage, Tim Drummond and Dave West...a potentially new pitching staff. Hometown boy Kent Hrbek continued to excel as the Twins first baseman, and Kirby Puckett and Gary Gaetti both were named to the All-Star team and received Gold Glove honors. Puckett also led the league with a .339 average and attendance was still wild with 2,277,438 finding fun at the Dome.
