1982 Minnesota Twins Roster

The old house was abandoned for a new one -- the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome, an air-filled silo built on the edge of downtown Minneapolis. At first, it wasn't air-conditioned and balls would often get lost in the white ceiling. It was a stadium built first for football, with the thought of playing baseball as an after-thought. 1982 brought new players by the drove: Calvin Griffith shipped Roy Smalley and Gary Serum to the New York Yankees for Paul Boris/Ron Davis/Greg Gagne, and then added Roger Erickson/Butch Wynegar to the New York roster for Pete Filson/John Pacella/Larry Milbourne. Tom Brunansky came over from the California Angels, while rookies Gary Gaetti, Kent Hrbek and Tim Laudner received lots of playing time. The pitching staff was in shambles, winning only 60 total games (May was a worst ever 3-26) for new manager Billy Gardner. Only 921,186 people came to the new playing palace and Kent Hrbek was the Twins lone All-Star.
