1981 Minnesota Twins Roster
A player's strike divided the season into two halves. Both were losing prospects for the Minnesota Twins who played to a major-league worst 469,090 fans. Doug Corbett shined out of the bullpen and was named to the All-Star team but both Roy Smalley and John Castino suffered back injuries, with Castino needing a spinal fusion which curtailed his career. It was a short season, and the team managed a total of 47 home runs...less than legend Harmon Killebrew would often hit in a season. But the future was on the horizon. Gary Gaetti, Tim Laudner, and Kent Hrbek (who grew up in the shadow of Met Stadium), played their first games for the Twins and the team played their last games at Metropolitan Stadium.
