5/9/2002: The Twins had a day off coming off of a split against Kansas City at the Metrodome. The team is 22-13 and in first place, 0.5 games ahead of Chicago. On May 10 the Yankees come to town for their only visit of the season.

5/9/1997: The 14-20 Twins lost to the Blue Jays 4-1 at the Metrodome. The loss was the team’s fifth in the last seven games. Frankie Rodriguez pitched well in the loss, allowing only two earned runs over 6 1/3 innings pitched.

5/9/1987: Les Straker, Juan Berenguer, and Jeff Reardon combined to shut out the Yankees in the Bronx, 2-0. The Twins only runs came from the bat of Al Newman, who executed a squeeze play in the third, and tripled home a run in the fifth. The win moved the Twins to within a half a game of first place.

5/9/1977: The 18-10 Twins had an off day on the heels of a 5-4 victory over the Blue Jays in Toronto. The win put the Twins one game ahead of Chicago for the AL West lead. Rod Carew went 4-for-5 in the game to bring his batting average up to .360.

5/9/1967: Mudcat Grant went the distance as the Twins easily defeated the Washington Senators 11-1. Seven different Twins scored at least one run, and all but one player (Ron Clark) managed at least one hit. The win improved the team’s record to 10-12.
